A few days ago I put up a video on Instagram – @mattfureysays – wherein I show the way some people do pushups, and how it’s the laziest, wimpiest and weakest way to do them.
I explain it all in Chinese, but I think you will get the drift of what I’m saying via body language alone.
The alternative I demonstrate is a tremendous way to do pushups because you activate the tendons as well as the muscles. You’re not going for a beach boy pec pump. Instead you’re going for functional, honest-to-goodness real world strength, power and endurance.
The boys who go for the muscle look, whether by using steroids or doing muscle-building only exercises, tend to end up with torn tendons and ligaments. It’s a sad reality for them to face, but when your connective tissue cannot keep up with the strength of the muscles, something has got to give.
Tearing connective tissue can happen to anyone, but if you want to put the odds in your favor, rather than against, you learn to train your tendons. This is what Chinese martial artists understood eons ago – and western strength trainers still are not even close to catching up.
For in-depth explanations of the pushups I recommend and how to work your tendons, you’ll find that information within the confines of the Matt Furey Inner Circle.
